Creating Fitness and Weight Loss Goals Year Round

You don’t have to wait until a new year starts to implement resolutions to achieve your fitness and weight loss goals. Regardless of the month or day, you can take action now and here are some tips to get you started:

Commit to changing your lifestyle: Losing weight, getting in shape, and eating well are all lifetime prospects. You will never EVER stop working to maintain them. Recognize that you will need to change your lifestyle permanently to accommodate this. Make changes slowly, because your body and mind adapts most easily to small, regular changes than large ones. You cannot light a large fire, only a small one!

Celebrate your success: We are quick to beat ourselves up when we don’t reach our fitness and weight loss goals, but we rarely celebrate our successes. When you have achieved one of your goals, give yourself a pat on the back.

Nothing worth having gets accomplished in an instant. Resolutions, like all plans are set in one day, but are accomplished with a hundred tiny steps that happen throughout the year. A resolution made at the start of a new year or at any other time is nothing more than a starting point.

Setting goals is not that difficult. You remember the saying, “How do you eat an elephant?” Well the answer is: “One bite at a time”. Obtaining the results you want with your fitness and weight loss plans are very much the same way as eating an elephant. We certainly can’t expect to lose 20 percent or more of our weight in one month. We must work through a process of steps and phases.

These steps and phases are very important and need to be planned for if fitness and weight loss success is to be yours. Think about “what” it is that you want to accomplish or that you want to have in your life. Consider “why” you want it. Finally start to write down ideas of “how” you might reach or obtain it (also known as “action plans”).

Finally, start working towards your goals and adjust them where you need to. Measure them often to make sure you are on track. Be prepared for setbacks from time to time – just pick things back up and get going again.

Allow yourself to be proud of all of your accomplishments, knowing that you create the positive things in your life and that life doesn’t just happen to you.
